Founded in 1884, Redbridge Rovers Football Club is one of the oldest football clubs in the English football system. This amateur team is currently sitting second from bottom of the local league, playing in front of crowds that average 27 people at their Spartan ground that is located two miles down a dirt track next to the local rubbish dump. Despite this they (like all sports teams) have their own collection of fans who turn out week in, week out to watch them play, meet their friends and discuss the latest defeat over a beer and a packet of pork scratchings in the social club bar. Running the place is matriarchal, hardworking but loose-lipped Doreen--whose meat raffles are legendary and have kept the punters coming through the doors for all these years. Obsessive fan Pete Mott is like a walking, talking almanac of facts, figures and statistics relating to his beloved team. Pete regularly meets his friend Tel at the club, but Tel has surprised him by coming out as gay and has now started bringing his new boyfriend Mel to the matches while Pete's young lodger Tom only has eyes for new barmaid Sam.

Episode 1
The Meat Raffle

Redbridge Rovers are the worst team in the Evo-Stik First Division North league, despite the enthusiasm of long term supporters Pete Mott and Tel, one half of a gay couple with partner Mel. Gossiping bar manageress Doreen informs everybody - including new barmaid Sam - that captain Mike Nolan has been playing away in every sense whilst Pete's homophobia regarding Mel leads him to get locked in the toilet - to general amusement. He gets released in time for the meat raffle and the start of the game but, given the team's track record, his presence is unlikely to make any difference.

The Biscuit Plate

Following another defeat for Redbridge Pete makes no bones about blaming goal-keeper Dave Head to anybody who will listen whilst mother-dominated Willy finds himself fighting his attraction for the besotted Mandy. Meanwhile Doreen is looking forward to a day in London, which is cruelly snatched from her, so a nervous Sam is relieved when Doreen takes the news that Sam has broken her prized biscuit plate very well.
Episode 3
The Tankard

The club has a fund raising night attended by its former star player Roger Small, who sponsors Pete to break the world record for eating fish fingers - which he fails miserably. Pete is also annoyed to learn that Tel has booked a Maltese holiday with Mel during the first week of the new season and Doreen is saddened when Roger, for whom she has long carried a torch, announces that he is moving to Turkey. Mandy and Willy, on the other hand, get a little bit closer.
Episode 4
England v Macedonia

As the supporters gather to watch England versus Macedonia on television Doreen Skypes sister Marilyn in New Zealand and' brings' her round to greet everybody and admire Pete's tight trousers. Francis announces that Willy did not come home after the charity evening, leading Mandy to tell Doreen about his night with her whilst Tom composes a love poem for Sam, Tel admits to Pete that Mel was not the first man he went with and Pete makes a fool of himself on a phone-in show.
Episode 5
Bonzo the Redbridge Rover

Pete brings his little boy Stanley to watch his father run onto the pitch as Bonzo, the Redbridge mascot but Stanley is more interested in hovering the club room and thus misses Pete fall over and Bonzo's head fall off, and to add to Pete's woes fellow supporter Tel now prefers cosy nights in with boyfriend Mel rather than join in him in the pub after matches. Mandy is annoyed that Willy has kept her a secret from his mother but Sam and Tom declare their feelings for each other.
Episode 6
The Anniversary

Even though Redbrige get relegated to the Combined County League after their 7-0 defeat there is cause to celebrate as the supporters present Doreen with gifts of yoghurt jelly beans and glass swans to thank her for twenty-five years service behind the bar, along with a special dance and surprise guests. Mandy forces Willy into making a decision whilst Pete is unusually complimentary to Mel and club legend Stanley Bell comes out of retirement to inspire the team for next season - though unfortunately his speech comes with his rather revealing party trick.
