Season six finds Tommy deeply affected by his recent near-death experience, in which his soul ended up in hell. Tommy becomes determined to quit drinking and sleeping around. However, when he hears that his eldest daughter Colleen, who is now 21, is becoming an alcoholic like him, he goes too far in trying to change her ways and save her from his own fate.

Everyone around him sees to it that he walk a narrow path, however, and he's haunted by his memories. Meanwhile, city budget cuts loom, and 62 Truck is threatened. As Lou puts it: "We have a big target on our back."
