This medical comedy-drama follows a series of teenagers with serious illnesses. Cheerleader Kara (Zoe Levin) collapses during practice and is admitted to Ocean Park Hospital with a heart condition, where she meets Emma (Ciara Bravo), an intelligent young girl with anorexia; Leo (Charlie Rowe), an amputee and former osteosarcoma patient undergoing rehabilitation; Dash (Astro), a ladies' man diagnosed with cystic fibrosis; and Jordi (Nolan Sotillo), a new patient with Ewing sarcoma. The group explore friendships and even romance as the season develops and they form their own support group, dubbed "The Red Band Society." Their story is told from the perspective of Charlie (Griffin Gluck), a young comatose patient who shares a room with Kara.
