16 Episodes 2008 - 2009
In the third season, the perennially light-hearted fake psychic detective Shawn Spencer (James Roday) faces some challenges that are no laughing matter. His estranged psychiatrist mother (guest star Cybill Shepherd) returns to evaluate members of the SBPD, and her presence has an effect on Henry (Corbin Bernsen), who's still smitten. Shawn also reconnects with an old flame from high school (guest star Rachael Leigh Cook), but that doesn't mean his feelings for Juliet (Maggie Lawson) have waned. His biggest test, however, comes at the end of the season when he takes on his toughest case yet: catching the elusive serial killer Mr. Yang. Meanwhile, Gus (Dulé Hill) learns his family is keeping some pretty major secrets from one another during the show's second Christmas-themed episode; Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) turns to the guys when he becomes a murder suspect; and Vick (Kirsten Nelson) lands the permanent role of chief.
