Deadly Obsessions
Sun, Jun 21, 2009 43 mins
In July 1996, Nancy Riggins, a cashier and mother of a ten year old daughter vanished from her suburban Baltimore neighborhood. Exhaustive searches for her yielded nothing. After five years of tireless efforts by Nancy's friends and family, it was finally revealed that her husband, Paul Stephen Riggins, Jr. (Steve) had a four year affair with his daughter's baby sitter and murdered his wife. It was not clear if murder resulted from his wife's discovery of the infidelity, or the crime was committed to clear the way to marry his mistress who was only fourteen years old when the affair began. Despite the absence of a body, Steve Riggins was the first to be convicted of first degree murder in Howard County, MD based entirely on circumstantial evidence. Eleven years after the murder he admitted to missing his daughter and regretting the pain caused by her mother's death. Riggins directed police to his wife's remains buried in a wooded area. He is currently serving a live sentence and will not be eligible for parole until 2016 when he will be 58.
