Luke and Mia bond while Nate is constantly off running errands for his mother. But when Luke is learning more about Mia than Nate, Nate realizes he has to tell his mother there's another woman in his life who takes priority over her now. Genesis meets a hot musician, Devin (Keith Robinson), who has his own band at The Spot. Even though she knows her father disapproves, Genesis sneaks out to sing secular music with Devin's band. Keith lets his jealousy get the best of him and lets her secret slip out to William.

The family prepares for the church's annual Youth Weekend. When William vetoes Luke's involvement, Nate ambushes them into a family counseling session with a therapist (Tommy Ford). Mia helps Carolyn with her youth girl's group, but the girls end up gravitating to Mia's realness more than Carolyn. Genesis enjoys her alter ego "Geni Fierce," when she puts on one of Mia's wigs.

Meanwhile, Carolyn plots to mend the relationship between William and Luke by cleaning out the attic.

Mia's flamboyant mom (Mary Ann Hermansen) comes for a visit and outs a big secret about Mia during dinner. When Keith shows up to dinner with a date (Caryn Ward Ross), Genesis is finally able to see her own faults in their relationship. Luke takes Grandpa Roy out on a playdate that goes terribly awry.

Mia tries to prove herself by volunteering to host a tea for some discerning ladies (Kym Whitley) at the church. Everything falls apart when Nate's friends end up crashing her tea party to watch a football game. Carolyn hires a nurse (Jackee Harry) for Grandpa Roy, who insists he can take care of himself. Genesis goes on a date with Devin (Keith Robinson) only to learn that things aren't always what they seem.

Nate does a favor for his clingy friend, Chris (Deon Richmond), who Nate has been neglecting because he's too busy. But when the favor backfires, Nate has to decide if it's time to let go of some of his irresponsible friendships from childhood. Meanwhile, Carolyn enlists Mia's help with the church's dance team and it doesn't go well. Luke tries to get everyone to listen to his new self-produced CD, but no one has time.
