Stephanie leads PJ, Bobby and Kenny to a high-end restaurant where their experience is anything but top-notch. Mike, feeling excluded from "couples night," takes Brendan with him for a night of dressing up and meeting elegant women. All parties later converge at Crowley's where PJ's group, having gotten into Brendan's "college recipe" brownies, are somewhat the worse for wear.

Mike expects the gang to treat him to a super-cool "40th" birthday. Told to pick how, his choice of an old-fashioned pub crawl faces countless real or lame excuses. Bobby's credit card problems, alas, stem from a huge cloud over the whole Newman family fortune that soon materializes, brutally and painfully, to send the gang running to save what they can carry. Kenny accompanies Stephanie to a meeting with Hollywood producer Josh, who shows interest in the book 'You're a Great Guy But', but only Kenny spots his interest in acquiring just the title alone.

After being sick without any live-in help, Mike gets scared of dying alone (i.e. he's ready for a relationship). PJ promises to help him find a suitable 'real woman', provided he relieves her (PJ) of house-sitting for Andy. Brendan, tarred with the same brush as Mike, gets Stephanie as his 'courting coach'. A dating chance soon overrules all plans. Meanwhile, Bobby and Kenny give priority to an athletic dare, but competitive work-outs prove hard on Kenny.

A glowing critic rating attracts hordes of students to Crowley's. The gang, out-crowded, tries finding another bar but ultimately fights back to scare the intruders off, with whatever it takes. Meanwhile Mike, determined to become 'worthy' of Marcia, takes makeover advice from PJ and Stephanie to give his apartment a more welcoming look before coming clean about Andy's house not being his.

Crowley's may be closed down, but Brendan surprises everyone by his enterprising response. Dream job offers are available to P.J., who soon realizes succeeding Jack Brisco isn't worth missing out on her friends, and Stephanie, who even gets Kenny to move with her to London. Mike seems obsessed with throwing a perfect birthday party for Marcia, despite the girls bailing out of helping 'party planner' Kenny. Only on the day itself the mates learn it's actually their surprise wedding.
