Episode 1

Cradle of the Maya

Sun, Apr 9, 2023 44 mins

Albert Lin and his NG Lidar team join archaeologists specially interested in the legendary origin of the Maya. Sources in major later royal city Palenque (southern Mexico) describe it as near a split mountain at a large body if water. The surrounding area yields a fitting lake along the main river, with a nearby cenote, in the Lacandon jungle, the home (stretching into Guatemala) of the least hispanized Maya community, which proves eager to help with their local knowledge and proud of new finds. The latter proves -diving into it- a quarry in use since the relevant earliest period of the Maya, containing clues to search nearby. Notably the split mountain proves an ancient city, with astronomical observatories, all most worthy of extensive digs to the 'Maya birth place'.

Albert wonders what existed around the capital, and soon cliff burial sites with stone funeral portraits and sarcophagi at Carajia, still no dwelling. Having consulted a local presumed descendant, he gets clues to a legendary city Huajaiquil, and using liar technology his team discovers an intricate network of hill roads, enabling sophisticated trade, and an Inca guard post bordering their many tiny dwellings all along, which enthusiastic archaeologists will be studying for many years, while Indios proudly welcome discovering their Ancient roots.
