Sam Tyler is a police detective in 2008 when he gets struck by a car and is knocked unconscious. When he comes to and finds himself in 1973 he goes to his precinct and is mistaken for a transfer from another precinct. He finds himself trying to do things a little differently from what he is used to. And he tries to figure out why he is in 1973.

Trent then attempts another robbery, gets killed by Hunt, but not before Trent shoots June the precinct secretary, at the scene. When a witness states that Trent was escorted by uniformed police going into the store being robbed, it becomes a corruption issue. It turns out June was connected to Trent, and this is how the case gets solved.

He was blackmailed by Russian gangster Vasilli Lukin, from Nunzio's turf, so the case requires cooperation. Sam mediates with social worker Maria Belanger, who seduces him without divulging her pa and the rivalry root, which Ray eagerly points out.
