Afterwards in the hallway, he answers a call where his sister informs him his father has committed suicide with a gun. When he arrives home, he and his sister puzzle over a cryptic suicide note and the fact that his father never owned a gun. He meets his childhood friend Seth, a policeman, in a dive bar for drinks. He sees his ex-wife Bella who is now remarried. Afterwards, Joel then walks alone to his father's office where he falls asleep in a chair. He awaken when a woman, Cassandra. arrives for an appointment. As she sits down, she acts as if Joel is his father. She then reiterates some recent thoughts about murder of her boyfriend Neil. She also complains of a male stalker. She disappears in the middle of their therapy session, leaving Joel very puzzled. On returning to his father's office, he researches Cassandra, finding her medical record. The record shows the case was closed in December 1999. He drives to her old residence. He finds out from another apartment resident that Cassandra was murdered over 20 years ago. On searching his phone, he finds that her murder is still unsolved. Joel attends his father's funeral with his sister. Afterwards, he discovers that Bella's son was outside. When he speaks to him, he warns him about returning, that he is in danger. Later that night he meets Seth in a bar and receives the police file on Cassandra, an unsolved murder. On returning to his car, he suspects he is being followed. So he walks past his car and tries to confront the man who simply starts running. He almost catches him as he jumps over the wall into a cemetery. Looking around inside, something lights up, and he discovers his sister's gravestone elaborately laid with flowers and fairy lights. His stalker is seen watching him from the shadows. And his father's office, he has a vision of his father, speaking about murder victims, such as Cassandra and others. He also implies that he also is a murder victim.
