Kwai Chang Caine was a priest at a Shaolin temple, where his son Peter also lived and studied. The temple was destroyed and father and son each thought the other had perished in the fire. For many years, Kwai Chang 'walked the earth,' while Peter became a big-city cop. Finally, they are reunited and now together they battle evil, using wisdom, martial arts, and occasionally even Peter's service pistol (only as a last resort).

The First Temple

Caine and Peter go back in time to the Shaolin Temple and meet their ancestor Kwai Chang. And they teach him and the other monks kung fu to defend themselves when they're about to be attacked.

Caine accompanies Peter when he's assigned to bring a crooked cop back to be tried. They're traveling by plane but the cop's commander making sure he doesn't get the chance to turn on him makes sure they don't make it by sabotaging their plane. The plane crashes but they survive. Caine and the prisoner are handcuffed together and it's while they are together Caine tries to talk to the man. The commander upon learning that they survived the crash sets out to find them.
