Insight host Jon Du Pre sits down with Professor Robert Ridge, a Social Psychologist at Brigham Young University. Du Pre asked Professor Ridge about aggression in our society and the possible stimuli behind aggressive behavior. Along with his colleagues in Michigan and Japan, Prof. Ridge conducts experiments to tease out the driving forces which influence how we choose to behave. While many scholars have studied how violence in movies and video games affects us, Ridge stated that no one has really studied the impact that aggression in literature can have on the reader. He asserted that more exposure to violent entertainment, including literature, does influence our behavior, and we may not be as immune to these effects as we think we are.

Du Pre and Mull discussed what got the author interested in fantasy literature and where he gets his inspiration. His "inner ten year old is alive and well," and maintaining a youthful perspective keeps him connected to the fun in life and in stories. Mull also shared how his personal belief system relates to his fiction.

In the last fifty years the mother's role has shifted in our society. Du Pre discusses with Allen and Pothier what some of those changes are and how to embrace being a mother in the 21st Century. Being a mom today is tough, and Allen and Pothier tell Du Pre how they enjoy the job while still dealing with the challenges that face them daily.
