Aggression

Wed, May 4, 2011

Du Pre asked Professor Ridge about aggression in our society and the possible stimuli behind aggressive behavior. Along with his colleagues in Michigan and Japan, Prof. Ridge conducts experiments to tease out the driving forces which influence how we choose to behave. While many scholars have studied how violence in movies and video games affects us, Ridge stated that no one has really studied the impact that aggression in literature can have on the reader. He asserted that more exposure to violent entertainment, including literature, does influence our behavior, and we may not be as immune to these effects as we think we are.
