"Howards End" looks at the intertwined lives of three families: the wealthy Wilcoxes, the free-spirited Schlegels, and the working-class Basts. Helen Schlegel (Philippa Coulthard) falls in love and gets engaged with Paul Wilcox (Jonah Hauer-King), but soon breaks off the engagement. Ruth Wilcox (Julia Ormond) finds a kindred spirit in Margaret Schlegel (Hayley Atwell). When Ruth dies, her widower, Henry Wilcox (Matthew Macfadyen), pursues a relationship with Margaret. This relationship, however, becomes threatened when bad advice from the Schlegels, based in turn on advice from Henry, financially ruins Leonard Bast (Joseph Quinn). The situation is further complicated when a secret involving Henry and Jacky Bast (Rosalind Eleazar) is revealed. "Howards End" also stars Joe Bannister as Charles Wilcox, Yolanda Kettle as Dolly Wilcox, Bessie Carter as Evie Wilcox, Alex Lawther as Tibby Schlegel, and Tracey Ullman as Juley Mund.
