Episode 1
The Hunt For Mr. Christmas

The ten contestants arrive at the house where they: will live for the entire course of the competition; meet their fellow contestants, host Jonathan, and judge Melissa; and learn the structure of the competition, including that one person will be sent packing for home after each Star Quality challenge. For their first Festive Faceoff, they are given thirty minutes to create an ugly Christmas sweater, it judged not only on its appearance, but how the sweater tells of who he is as a person. And for their all important first Star Quality challenge, they are given a scene to act out, what is a called a meet cute, where the two leads meet for the first time, usually in awkward manner. The twists are that while they are given a script, they have the ability to improvise in that their ultimate goal is to gain the attention of the female lead, that they will be acting in pairs in both fighting for that attention from the female lead, and that they will have as their female lead Hallmark star Erin Cahill who will also act as guest judge.

With the first two challenges under their belts, the nine remaining contestants have a better understanding of what is expected of them, or so they believe. This week's Festive Faceoff has the guys wrapping two Christmas gifts in thirty minutes, one which is a standard six straight sided box, the second a proverbially more difficult one from a variety of odd-shaped and sized toys from which to choose. The challenge will be judged not only for the wrapping itself, but any personal story each has for choosing the gift and/or the way it is wrapped. And for the Star Quality challenge, some, specifically the professional models, believe they have upper hand in doing a photo shoot of ten photos, each guy having the same set of props that they can use, with the shoot to take place outside of the house to take advantage of the beautiful vista. While most have very defined notions of what they are going to use as props and how they are going to pose with such, they are thrown a last second loop in needing to incorporate a specific costar in the photos, which has the potential to knock one off his game due to personal circumstances.

Falling for you

The guys find out that one of their own has had to drop out of the competition for medical reasons. While all are concerned for him and his health, one cannot help but admit his departure also means one less obstacle to the end prize. For this week's Festive Faceoff, the guys will work in pairs to untangle a massive ball of Christmas light strands, one who must hoist the approximately eighty pound ball via a pulley system, while the other does the untangling. The winning team is the first to extract three strands from their ball to wrap and light a mock tree. And for the Star Quality challenge, they again are to act a scene with a Hallmark star, guest judge Brooke D'Orsay, while performing a specific activity: ice skating. While the ice skating itself may be a challenge for some, and the proverbial "walking and chewing gum at the same time" may be a challenge for others, Jonathan doesn't tell them that there is one more twist thrown in for which they will be judged and which they may not even be aware of until Jonathan, Melissa and Brooke provide their assessment to the group.

The Talented Mr. Christmas

For the Festive Faceoff, the guys will have to use their strength, speed and agility to work their way through an obstacle course, the goal for which is to chop down, haul and erect a Christmas tree. And for the Star Quality challenge, they will have free reign to do what they want in performing in a talent show. While some of the guys have what would be considered skills performed in traditional talent shows, others will have to be more creative in what they decide to do while still working to their strengths. While they can prepare for the talent show, they will not have prepared for what is the second surprise part of the challenge which is waiting for them off stage.

Laughing All the Way

At the last elimination, the guys were asked to make a crucial decision which would affect one contestant in particular, but would potentially affect them all. After they make their decision, they continue on with the competition. For the Festive Faceoff, they are randomly teamed in pairs where they literally have to make their cup runneth over, the cup an oversized one filled with marshmallow topped cocoa, they needing to make the marshmallows run over the side by filling the cup with more cocoa transferred from another cup via two large sponges also shaped like marshmallows. They will also be paired in the Star Quality challenge where each team will perform in an unscripted scene, testing their improv skills. Each person will not know his backstory and his specific character quirk until he enters the scene, where he will also meet pros who will help progress the scene along.

The Festive Five

For the Festive Faceoff, the guys enter into a good old fashioned Christmas trivia contest, the winner the first one to get seven correct answers. And for the Star Quality challenge, they will once again be performing a scripted scene against a Hallmark leading lady. The difference between this scene and any other they've done up to this point are the emotions of the scene, this case being a potential breakup which should result in some tears, and the fact that they will also be under the guidance of a Hallmark director, which will demonstrate whether they can take direction.

A Christmas Waltz

As the guys recently went through a challenge to see if they could take direction, they are again tested in that skill in a slightly different manner for the Festive Faceoff where they, in pairs, need to find specific items in the room to adorn a snowman. Jonathan takes the final four aside for them to ask him any questions they want about the industry. Jonathan further mentions that they have gone through most of the tropes present in Hallmark movies except one. They are tested in that trope for the Star Quality challenge, namely acting and dancing at the same time. Guest judge Witney Carson gives them dancing lessons including the dance routines they will be performing with her in the scripted scene. They learn at the last minute that they will be performing the scene in front of a live audience which includes some special guests who may or may not provide some comfort to the guys.

Our Christmas Star

The final three standing, Hayden Maher, Elijah Malcomb and Ezra Moreland, discuss the process they've gone through thus far leading to the finish line which is in sight. They have one final Star Quality Challenge, which will largely but not totally dictate who is chosen as Mr. Christmas to star in a Hallmark Christmas movie. This challenge is as close to as real movie shoot as they've done in that it will be multiple scenes (three) disconnected in they needing to know their feelings, emotions and knowledge leading in and out of each, they will be directed again by returning guest judge Ali Liebert who has the option of asking for multiple takes if she wants to see something different, they will have multiple actors against who they have dialogue including guest judge and the "movie"'s leading lady Nikki DeLoach, and that the final scene will culminate with something that they have not yet done and is a necessary interaction between a Hallmark movie's leads, namely a romantic kiss. Going into the challenge, Nikki provides them with information of the technicalities of filming, including that most Hallmark movies are shot on a very tight two-week time frame so that there is little room for errors, and that while they need to bring emotions to any filming they still have to be aware of the technical aspects.
