He was convicted of breaking into Morgan Metzer's home, smothering her with a pillow, threatening her with a handgun and leaving her bound outside in zip tie handcuffs, all while wearing a mask and disguising his voice. After the attack, he staged a "rescue," by changing his clothes, returning to the home, and calling 911. Law enforcement investigators determined that he was actually the one who had assaulted her. Rodney Metzer pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced in August 2021 to 70 years, with the first 25 years in jail and the remaining 45 years on probation.
