He suspects Pendl could be a spy and the girlfriend found out which is why he killed her. Danko has no choice because he needs Pendl to blow the dam.

So the team is sent to stop them because they have Leeds, a counterfeiter. They pose as gangsters who are the ones who are going to introduce the currency into the U.S. So in order to get to the facility they trick the Germans by claiming it's defective, so the Germans take them to where the currency is being made; in Germany.
