The third season, which occurs one year after the events of Season 2, revolves around the fallout from a Ponzi scheme orchestrated by Louis Tobin (Len Cariou), the patriarch of an über-wealthy and dysfunctional family. Patty (Glenn Close) and Tom (Tate Donovan) are assigned by the government to delve into the case to determine how much Tobin's family and associates knew about his dealings and to locate the hidden money. The case proves especially challenging for Tom, who invested with Tobin, lost a large chunk of money and must keep his secret from Patty. And though Ellen (Rose Byrne) has relocated to the district attorney's office, she's inevitably drawn back to Patty's side as she begins work on the case to bring potential criminal charges against those involved in the scandal.
