11 Episodes 2005 - 2005
"Seinfeld" co-creator Larry David (playing a fictionalized version of himself) is as socially inept as ever in the fifth season of the heavily improvised comedy, landing himself in more awkward situations in 10 episodes than most people do in a lifetime.\ Early on, Larry learns longtime pal Richard Lewis (as himself) needs a kidney, prompting Larry and Jeff Greene (Jeff Garlin) to ponder how far they'll go to help a friend in need. It's something Larry struggles with all season after getting the dreaded news that he is indeed a kidney match, and he goes to ridiculous lengths, like befriending the head of an organ-transplant organization, to ensure he won't end up on the operating table. In another story arc, a mumbled comment from his father (Shelley Berman) makes Larry wonder whether he was adopted, and he enlists private detective Omar Jones (Mekhi Phifer) to uncover the truth. Some of Larry's most memorable Season 5 gaffes include bringing a registered sex offender (Rob Corddry) to Seder; adopting a dog that Wanda Sykes (as herself) pegs as racist; buying a bra for his housekeeper (and upsetting her husband in the process); getting into a heated feud with an elderly bingo player at his father's nursing home; and accusing his Korean bookie of kidnapping Jeff's dog. Ted Danson, Rosie O'Donnell, Hugh Hefner, Kevin Nealon, Gary Player, Dustin Hoffman, Bea Arthur and Sacha Baron Cohen all make cameos.
