Fri, Oct 12, 201842 mins
Although she was only trying to protect Nathaniel from Trent trying to kill him, Rebecca, at her hearing, decides to plead guilty, not so much for this specific act, but as penance for all the bad things she's done since she moved to West Covina. With Nathaniel having abandoned Rebecca as he saw her plea as a sign that she was giving up on him, Paula, despite not yet being a lawyer, or even planning on being a criminal lawyer at that, does whatever she can to help Rebecca out of this matter. The judge sentences Rebecca to six weeks in prison, solely for the circus that she has created. Will being in prison change Rebecca's resolve to be behind bars for the rest of her life as penance, or will she find some other way to give back to the world for all the bad things she's done? As he has always done when he's faced adversity in his life, Nathaniel goes to the extreme to get his mojo back in forgetting about Rebecca. What he decides is an outdoor getaway on his own called the Death Wish Adventure. Someone can see that this move by Nathaniel may not achieve what he wants. And in evaluating Rebecca's situation especially with respect to him, Josh believes that he is suffering from some psychological disorder - just like Rebecca - as opposed to the reality of he just being clueless about a lot of things in life in his focus on himself, and in the process he having made a lot of bad choices.

News of what Rebecca did, not only to Trent but to others as divulged in that courtroom testimony among other venues, has gone viral, she being coined the rooftop killer who, stated on various Internet sites, should remain locked up for all her bad deeds. As such, Rebecca, who has been trolling the comments section of such sites, feels that she can no longer face the world and has become agoraphobic, unable or unwilling to leave her house, even for things that she would normally go out of her way to do for fun. The fact that Rebecca's house was once the site of a series of gruesome murders comes into play in what Rebecca decides to do, that decision which is enabled especially by Valencia for her own reasons. Meanwhile, Nathaniel has finally returned to work after an extended absence to find that his father has been in the office several times, and has made the unilateral decision to institute the firm's "silent partner", Bert, as the managing partner in the absence of any of the other firm's lawyers ever being in the office. Being under Bert's control may be too much for Nathaniel to handle. And Darryl has joined a mommy's group in the park. As Stacy was the "mommy" when they were raising Madison, Darryl becomes overwhelmed by what he now believes he has to do to be the best mommy he can be. The most daunting task may be to provide something that most mommies can provide naturally that he cannot, namely breast milk.

Nathaniel, however, has taken to a new tact in terms of dealing with seeing Rebecca again on a day in and day out basis at the office. Although being a lawyer is the only thing in her life that has provided her validation, Rebecca is told by Dr. Akopian that returning to work as a lawyer is not the only career choice she has, especially if she is searching for true fulfillment and happiness. Seeing something new in the lobby of Mountaintop's office building provides Rebecca a thought as to what an alternative life may be. Meanwhile, Josh is following Dr. Akopian's advice to be more introspective. How he takes that advice is to hit "the apps" in search of a true, loving relationship. Using something he found hidden at his father's house, Tucker believes he's found the pot of gold into manipulating Rebecca into doing whatever he wants, she, in his manipulation, believing that she's found her kindred spirit. What happens between Rebecca and Tucker is somewhat affected by Sunil and Mrs. Hernandez both vying for the same paralegal overtime work, Sunil who enters into a secret agreement with Nathaniel to get that work. Meanwhile, Paula, in bringing Brendan and Tommy over to Rebecca's to hang out with Tucker, ends up spending the day with her two sons alone in an outing to an escape room. Rebecca takes specific action in adding to her group of friends with people she warply believes she is more copacetic at this stage in her life. Paula may not even be there for her as Paula is going through her own crisis. Having just bonded with her sons and liking them not only as sons but real human beings, she learns from Brendan that he too is going away having been accepted to work overseas in a volunteer position with a peace organization. Three mismatched pairs end up going on three different road trips throughout various sections of the metropolitan Los Angeles area. Tired of self-reflection from "this" therapy or "that" therapy, Rebecca just wants a chill hang day with some friends at a barbecue joint in Irvine. The only person available is Darryl, who is by far the least chill hang person she knows, he who always wants to delve deeper into feelings, which is not what Rebecca needs today. The reason that Paula isn't available is that she has to study for exams. But before she can do that, at least in her own mind, she needs to set up her new home office with a lawyerly looking desk, one which she has found in San Bernardino. As it can't fit in their vehicle, she has hired a mover through an app. She is shocked to see that the person sent by the app is Josh, who is in an even more talkative phase of life due in part to being in therapy, chit-chat which Paula does not want. And Heather ends up saving Nathaniel, who she's never really liked, on the road. It isn't until Nathaniel gets in her car that she learns that he wants her to drive him to Santa Monica, which ends up being more of a demand than a friendly request. By the time each of these pairs part company, they will either have driven each other crazy or come to understand the other better.

Meanwhile, Josh, having moved out of Hector's mother's house and staying at the Y until he finds a more permanent living situation, is house-sitting for Rebecca while she's away. Josh quickly learns what few practical living skills he has in never having really lived on his own. And Nathaniel is making an effort to be a nicer person, the people at the office who are less than trusting that he doesn't have a nefarious motive for what they consider his odd behavior. Rebecca, whether or not she wants, will have to test their theory as she is partially catering Josh/Greg/White Josh/Hector/Father Brah/Valencia's class' ten year high school reunion twelve years after the fact at Home Base, the event which Greg is expected to attend. Beyond seeing something different about Greg which no one else seems to see, Rebecca will have to decide if Greg's current girlfriend will factor into how she interacts with him, and regardless of what she decides about Greg himself whether she will be up front to him about her encounter with his father, Marco, while Greg was away in Atlanta. Valencia has her own reunion angst as she is anxious about seeing someone at the event, that person, who Heather learns, was someone with who Valencia had a mutual love, and for who Valencia at the time was contemplating leaving Josh. While Heather tries to figure out who that person is, she also comes to believe that that person may actually have been Valencia's first girl crush. And the event may bring to a head the competition between two of the so-called alpha males of the class about who was and is more important: Hector, the class president, or Josh, the prom king. What Paula didn't tell them or her other attending guests is that the party is really her graduation party, she not wanting anyone to know the real reason in not liking that kind of focus on herself. Nathaniel is pained to see Rebecca seemingly happy together with Greg. Arguably Nathaniel's biggest booster, George, believes that Nathaniel can win Rebecca back with a grand gesture. From an idea by Paula, Nathaniel decides to watch romantic comedies for the first time in his life. From those, he fantasizes about how to win Rebecca back not only with the grand gesture, but through all the other rom-com clichés there are, which include making Rebecca jealous with a willing partner, she who may also be going through her own heartbreak of seeing who she believes is her true love in the arms of someone else. If Nathaniel's fantasy comes to fruition, will it also end the way of the vast majority of rom-coms where he will realize he is truly in love with his partner in crime as opposed to Rebecca, or will he come to some other non-rom-com realization?

Following her day out with Greg at Raging Waters, Rebecca will discover her path in not comprehensively dealing with her psychological issues. Meanwhile, Paula believes that she can do it all in taking her turn at the pro bono work at the prison, doing her regular job, studying for the bar exam and taking care of her family, all the while she admits she is not feeling well, the major symptom being her body temperature skyrocketing. By those that she knows that have gone through it before her, Paula may not want to believe that she is at that stage of life. When Paula finally does see her gynecologist, she may be surprised by the diagnosis.

Series star Rachel Bloom and the majority of the season 4 cast, backed largely by a combo led by Rachel's primary series co-songwriters Jack Dolgen and Adam Schlesinger, perform in concert at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles a handful of the songs from the one-hundred fifty seven "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" songbook. The performances are both as group numbers and solos, the primary supporting cast who each has a solo of what may arguably be considered his/her signature song from the show. One set of medleys is devoted to songs on a key theme of the show - sex - while another set touches on the theme of loneliness.
