Suzy is excited about the prospect of her first day off in six months, but doesn't get much time to relax as she first has to help a man trapped in the water in his dune buggy, rescue a runaway horse, and use her expertise in guiding the Coast Guard and Lifeguard to the site of two unconscious boaters. While Suzy is trying to relax, Milbank finds his hands full as her temporary replacement, and Rick is trying to be fair when a young man wants to join his group of all-male junior firefighters.

During the 4th of July weekend, the Island's usual rhythm is disrupted by two unexpected events: the mysterious appearance of a seemingly abandoned baby trapped in a well and the reckless behavior of a visiting yacht owner that escalates into a hazardous situation. Ron Garrison, an overconfident yachtsman, carelessly treats the ocean as his personal dumping ground for garbage and blatantly ignores safety regulations regarding fireworks. His irresponsible actions ignite a fast-spreading fire, putting Rick and Walt in immediate danger as the flames close in around them.

Walt eagerly anticipates the arrival of his brother Mitch, nephew Greggie, and Mitch's new wife, Karen. However, his excitement quickly shifts to worry when Mitch's private plane is reported overdue and later discovered crashed in a remote area of the island. With the support of a Coast Guard helicopter, the Island Rescue Forces work tirelessly to free a severely injured Mitch from the wreckage. Meanwhile, young Greggie faces a perilous situation of his own as he ventures off in an attempt to get help for his father.

Amid the blackout, a couple becomes trapped in an elevator, a chicken farmer struggles to save his entire flock, several individuals require urgent medical help, and a pair of thieves attempt to exploit the inactive burglar alarms to enact their schemes.
