Arthur & George is a three-part adaptation of Julian Barnes' novel about Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle as played by actor Martin Clunes. Set in 1906 in Staffordshire, Hampshire and London the drama follows Sir Arthur and his trusted secretary, Alfred 'Woodie' Wood as they investigate the case of George Edalji, a young Anglo-Indian solicitor who was imprisoned for allegedly mutilating animals and writing obscene letters.
The second series finds our unassuming detective inspector, "Dangerous" Davies, discreetly sorting out secrets that whatever is left of the police power can barely be messed with. Davison makes Davies one of TV's unlikeliest legends, and one of its most engaging: we see his self-questions, individual agonies, and detective thought processes all expressed fleetingly across his craggy face. When the radio shows were airing, Canyon Quest, a prequel book to the show, was released.
