A couple are attacked the woman is killed and the man is taken to the hospital. He gives Frank and O.Z. a description of the one who attacked him and killed his girlfriend. They eventually find him but because they improperly obtain the evidence, Lou who's appointed to defend the killer has it thrown out. So the guy is released. Dutton decides to proceed with the victim's testimony. But when the perp harasses him, he pulls a gun and shoots him. Dutton now has to prosecute him and Lou defends him.
