But a visit to the Blue Parrot and conversation with the dancer reveals a link to his past, and that all is not what it seems with the dancer, the cashier, and their relationship between themselves as well as Rick.

A presumed divorce--did it or did it not happen?--a Muslim woman acting like a Western woman, and the disruption and interference of a westerner (Rick) into Muslim traditions leads to charges of adultery. This against a backdrop of the German's using the woman's friendship with Rick to find evidence of his involvement of smuggling guns to Ethiopia.
