Season 1 Episode Guide

6 Episodes 2000

Episode 1

Back with a Vengeance: Part 1

Burnside has joined the National Crime Squad - Britain's equivalent of the FBI - as a DCI. On his first assignment, he's on the trail of an illegal firearms dealer who's customizing guns and selling them on the black market. It's also personal - he's out to avenge the murder of his former partner Barry Foxton, whose killer has never been brought to justice, and with whom he has a serious score to settle. Will Burnside's old-fashioned and hard-hitting techniques forged by his time with the Met be at odds with his younger charges' more modern and PC attitudes? Or do they have some tough lessons to learn themselves...

Episode 2

Back with a Vengeance: Part 2

After the massacre at the shopping centre, young Ben has disappeared and left carnage in his wake. Burnside is even more determined to nail Holden, and bust the arms trafficking racket before anyone else is hurt. But, it seems he may not be the only person who's after Holden...

Episode 3

Exposed: Part 1

In this next story, Burnside, Sam and Dave are on the trail of a 'signature' killer, who's murdered three women across the south-east - all of them strangled with a tie, with the dead bodies left in suggestive 'poses'. Burnside has his suspect, but Sam finds her own suspect too when she goes out on a limb to investigate around Beachy Head, where one of the victims was found. Has Burnside got his man - or could Sam be putting herself into danger as she pursues her own investigations using her own methods...

Exposed: Part 2

With Burnside's blessing, Sam continues her dangerous undercover mission to lure Evans deeper into her web. But could it be that the original suspect, Forbes, has been overlooked too soon? With his reputation and, more importantly, Sam's life at stake, Burnside has to make some tough decisions.

Episode 5

Trial by Fire: Part 1

Burnside is livid when gangland boss Dale Vickers leaves court a free man - thanks to witness intimidation. Burnside then has to move fast to get his informant Tony and his family into a safe house, now that his identity has been revealed - but how safe will they be? Meanwhile, Dave goes undercover in a risky and dangerous mission to ensnare Vickers, as he and his crime syndicate look to make a multi-million pound money-laundering deal with the Russian mafia.

Episode 6

Trial by Fire: Part 2

Dave seems to have kept his cool, but Vickers is starting to have his suspicions about him as he starts to get jittery. The Russian money duly arrives at Vickers' country pad - and he has an imaginative way of storing it. As the final handover approaches, events take on an unexpected and dramatic turn - has Burnside overstepped the mark, or has he simply brought some desperate and uncomfortable truths out into the open.
