A year after Billy McGregor left Millard Fillmore High School and "Head of the Class", he moves to Berkeley, California to get married and get a green card.

When Mary's friend finds out she and Billy are married in name only, she asks Billy out on a date. Mary also learns her son is smoking, and Billy uses an unusual method to teach the boy a lesson.

Parenting 101

Billy takes the girls to the mall to buy school shoes, and David buys a motorcycle for $63, hoping to rebuild it.

Episode 4

Poker Face

Billy is eager to go see a 3-D run of "House of Wax" and invites Mary to come along, causing her concern about "dating". David invites his buddies over for a poker night after borrowing money from Billy, and learns a valuable lesson.

Episode 5

Billy Gets the Bird

While helping with a beach clean-up, the family finds and tries to help a seagull tangled in fishing line.

Gimme Some Credit

Mary buys a new refrigerator on credit, but can't keep it because Billy's credit is bad.

Futile Attraction

One of Mary's fellow students in her accounting class has a crush on her, and Billy tries to discourage him.

Episode 8

Billy Flunks Mary

When grading class poetry assignments, Billy gives Mary a flunking grade, and she opts to rewrite the paper, for which he gives her a "D". Another attempt brings her to an understanding of what Billy hoped she'd learn from reading the poem.

Episode 9

Out All Night

Billy and Mary invite the neighbors to dinner while the girls are out seeing "Cats"; meanwhile, David sneaks out to stand in line for Metallica tickets--and gets hauled down to the police station after a disturbance erupts.

Billy might be moving out, so Mary considers divorce, wonders how it will impact the kids, and runs an ad to rent the basement apartment. Then they have a breakthrough in their relationship.

Episode 13

Thunder from Down Under

Sat, May 30, 1992

Mary's ex-husband leaves a message on the family answering machine that he's coming to town and would like to visit. This raises all kinds of feelings in the family. The two young daughters are looking forward to seeing their dad again; Annie dreams that he'll bring her a kangaroo. David is certain that he'll just disappoint them yet again; he had a habit of not showing up for things after saying he'd attend. Mary just wants to show him up and make him eat his heart out with what he's missing. Billy isn't sure how he feels, but everything comes spilling out when he mistakes an IRS agent dropping by for a home visit for the ex-husband. This ends up being good for Billy as the IRS agent is convinced that no one in a fraudulent marriage could have such strong feelings for his wife.
