A medical examination confirms that she was raped. Monika is barely able to describe the two masked perpetrators.

However, before Nina can get started, she and Karl Hidde are called to the scene where a body has been found in the Prerower Bodden.

A boy who had just missed the bus stares in horror at the vehicle. Running coach Wolfram Winkelmann also looks anxiously toward the smoke. Nina Petersen and Karl Hidde arrive quickly at the scene, only to confirm that the driver is dead. Sascha Müller was the bus driver and an employee of a municipal daycare center in Stralsund. Monika Beckmann, the director of the daycare center, is horrified.

Initial investigations point to a robbery-homicide. However, the case takes a volatile turn when a manifesto surfaces in which a group claims responsibility for the murder and announces the "Death of Medusa." To unravel the Medusa mystery, Nina Petersen, Karl Hidde, and Karim Uthman delve into the past of Kellermann, who had been tasked with winding up a Stralsund shipyard in the 1990s.

To solve a murder, Nina Petersen and Karl Hidde must reopen a case that had only recently been closed. Thomas Jung and his team are occupied with the murder of a man in the woods near Stralsund and the disappearance of a young girl. Is there a connection between the two cases? The investigation leads to a case that was only seemingly resolved; it involves sensitive files from the era of German reunification. When Nina and her colleagues face obstruction from higher up, it strongly suggests that information is being deliberately suppressed.

The Stralsund investigative team finds itself dealing with an organization that exploits teenagers from a foster family for its criminal activities. Mario Brendler—a youth whom the police had briefly detained for a drug offense—is found dead just hours after leaving the station. Although the circumstances of his death are initially unclear, all signs point to foul play. Their superior, Thomas Jung, informs Nina Petersen and Karl Hidde that the victim had previously worked regularly as an informant for the BKA (Federal Criminal Police Office), which had requested that Jung release Mario.

Investigator Nina Petersen finds herself facing not only the return of her former colleague Benjamin Lietz but also a dangerous case involving the smuggling of car parts. She is stunned when, one evening, she finds Benjamin Lietz lying severely injured on her doorstep. Lietz—with whom she had shared more than just a professional relationship—had vanished from her life for years, having served time in prison. Shortly thereafter, when her colleague Karl Hidde summons her to a crime scene at a small marina, the reality behind Lietz's silence quickly catches up with them. There is a fatality, and it does not take long for Thomas Jung's team to establish a link between the victim and Benjamin Lietz: the two had been cellmates in prison.
