Seven years after Ray Ellis abandoned his wife Olivia and two children, he is declared officially dead. That's when Ray reenters their life, only to find that Olivia is engaged to marry uptight Army colonel Dickey. Interested in reopening their old relationship, Ray moves next door to Olivia and their kids, hoping to assure them that he has changed his irresponsible ways, much to Dickey's chagrin.
