The eighth season begins with 32 competitors taking part in a model boot camp. Next, they check into a Century City hotel where their number is reduced to 20 and then 13. The lucky 13 then move into a Hollywood Hills mansion and participate in a controversial photo shoot with Nigel Barker in which they must strike poses for political causes.

The four remaining models get lessons on self-expression and storytelling from Aboriginal teachers. At the photo shoot, the women wear traditional Aboriginal clothing and body paint, and express themselves through an Aboriginal dance. Later, the judges eliminate one model.
