The American Film Institute bestows its Life Achievement Award to Gene Kelly. Shirley MacLaine hosts the salute, highlighted by clips from four of Kelly's musicals: "For Me and My Gal," "Anchors Aweigh," "Singin' in the Rain" and "An American in Paris." Tributes are paid by Fred Astaire, Leslie Caron, Steve Martin and Mikhail Baryshnikov.
