UPDATE: I just got my hands on an exclusive statement from Jeff Wachtel, USA Exec VP Original Programming, regarding the demise of Dead Zone and The 4400: "We wish we could keep all our great shows alive forever. But we feel we need to give some of our new shows a platform to grow, and it's with great sadness that we say goodbye to two shows that had a great run and helped create the resurgence of original programming on our network and on all of cable."My original story appears below.Next time USA Network gives you a lump of coal for Christmas, be thankful — very thankful — because this year, my moles tell me, what you're getting is the cancellation of both Dead Zone and The 4400.Yep, per multiple sources, the much-discussed Armageddon came early to Dead Zone — so early, in fact, that the show's last episode aired... gee, back in September. What turned out to be the 4400's series finale aired the same night. In a statement posted on the official 4400 message boards, s...

They may not get along on screen but for brothers Chris and Dylan Bruno, every opportunity to work together is a good one. This Friday, Chris, best known as Sheriff Bannerman on The Dead Zone, guest-stars on Numbers (9 pm/ET, CBS) as SWAT captain Tim King, who rushes in to save the day when David (Alimi Ballard) is taken hostage inside the FBI building. TVGuide.com talked to Dylan about sibling rivalry and the college romance that connects his older brother to CBS' math procedural. TVGuide.com: How did you rope your brother into doing this?Dylan Bruno: That's funny. The producers and I had all been joking around, "Oh, we've got to get your brother down here at some point," and there were a couple of times where they tho

TV's sizzling summer season has saved its best for last. Here is Part 2 of our guide to the season enders you will not want to miss. Monk, USA NetworkFinale airs Friday, Sept. 14, at 9 pm/ETDonal Logue guest-stars as a grifter, but the big news is Monk's other chance encounter. Says star Tony Shalhoub, "He literally bumps into a woman on the street. She's a total stranger, but he can't get her out of his head. I don't want to give too much away, because it's a poignant ending." Maybe a setup for romance when the show returns in January? "It may be time to open that door," Shalhoub says. "And not a moment too soon." Psych, USA NetworkFinale airs Friday, Sept. 14, at 10 pmKevin Sorbo (Hercules) guest-stars as a hotshot bounty hunter once idolized

Armageddon is so last week. USA Network’s The Dead Zone (Sundays at 10 pm/ET) ended its first season in 2002 with a hook as fresh as it was horrifying: Psychic Johnny Smith (Anthony Michael Hall) had a vision of Washington, D.C., in nuclear ruin. The man responsible? Ambitious politico Greg Stillson (Sean Patrick Flanery). Five years later that plot’s still playing out, but now many shows spin on the fear of an apocalypse (Heroes, Sleeper Cell) or have nukes that actually do detonate (Jericho, 24). What was once unfathomable is now almost ho-hum. So how will The Dead Zone — back for its sixth season — keep us hooked on its doomsday scenario? By twisting it, turning it and sending it in

USA Network's The Dead Zone has been cleared for a fall launch into syndication.... Steve Irwin's widow, Terri, tells Access Hollywood that the lone tape of her husband's death, handed over to her last week by authorities, has been destroyed.... Among the acts performing live at the Feb. 11 Grammy Awards will be (Sur. Prise.) Beyoncé, the Dixie Chicks, Gnarls Barkley and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.... Nearly half of the short films being screened at this month's Sundance Film festival will be available for download Jan. 18, at Apple's iTunes Store.
Officially confirming Friday's Ausiello Report, which said that The Dead Zone, as well as Psych, has been renewed, USA Network programming exec Jeff Wachtel tells the Hollywood Reporter that the Anthony Michael Hall series will in a way be reinvented as it enters its new year. "We're looking at the sixth season as the first season," he says.
Although there's no official confirmation from USA Network, my spies tell me that both The Dead Zone and Psych have been renewed. The Psych pick-up was a no-brainer, but Dead Zone? By all accounts, the just-concluded fifth season was supposed to be its last ¶ although Anthony Michael Hall didn't rule out the show coming back when he visited our podcast in June. It's as if he was psychic or something!
Tonight at 10 pm/ET, Showtime's highest-rated series, Weeds is back, to give fans another seasonlong buzz. When last we tuned in, Nancy (Emmy nominee Mary-Louise Parker's pot-peddlin' mama) had finally bedded her new beau, Peter, only to learn that he is (of all things!) a DEA agent. Surely, Peter's getting his walking papers, right? Not so fast. TVGuide.com grabbed a few minutes with the fed's portrayer, Martin Donovan, to talk about his extended visit to Agrestic, his confusing stint as Dead Zone's big baddie, and the rather disquieting film he has premiering this month. TVGuide.com: After watching Weeds' first-season finale, I figured you wer

As USA Network's The Dead Zone returns for a new season (premiering Sunday at 10 pm/ET), series star and former Brat Packer Anthony Michael Hall ponders what's in his future. TV Guide: You filmed the past two seasons of Dead Zone in Vancouver a year ago. Any hints about what's in store for your character, Johnny, this season? Anthony Michael Hall: He's just finished tracking down Sean Patrick Flanery [who plays corrupt congressman Greg Stillson] for four years.... I can't rememb
