"This fault is deep and I believe it's only a matter of time until it ruptures again," fears seismologist Sam Hill (Kim Delaney). Sure enough, quakes soon hit northern California, each one further south than the last.

Conclusion. A mass evacuation proceeds chaotically as the Big One threatens L.A. Meanwhile, President Hollister (Beau Bridges) orders a nuclear response that would fuse the faults and stop the shaking, a solution proposed by Sam (Kim Delaney). Failure would not be a pleasant option.
