Vanessa Hudgens is putting down her microphone and dancing shoes to give comedy a try as NBC announced Wednesday it's picking up the DC Comics workplace comedy Powerless to series.

The High School Musicaland Grease Live!star will lead the series about normal people working at an insurance firm as DC superheroes wreak havoc on our world. Have you ever wondered who pays for it when your favorite heroes destroy their cities as they try to save it? Hudgens plays Emily, a young insurance adjuster who becomes a hero in her own right when she holds a crime-fighting caped crusader accountable for the damage and inconvenience he causes for regular citizens. She'll quickly learn that with great insurance adjusting abilities comes great responsibility.

Fox picks up Lethal Weapon, Exorcist and more to series

Hudgens gave fans a taste of her comedy chops when she played Rizzo in Fox's Grease Live! last fall, but Powerless marks her first leading role on a television series. Up until now she's cut a paycheck in movies like Bandslam and Beastly.

She's not the only one dipping her toe into the comedy pond. The series is the first foray for DC Comics into the half-hour comedy realm, but NBC has recruited comedy vets like Alan Tudyk (A Knight's Tale), Danny Pudi (Community) and Christina Kirk (A to Z) as Hudgens' coworkers to boost the series' star power.

The peacock network is also adding legal comedy Trial & Error starring Nicholas D'Agosto, Jayma Mays and Sherri Shepherd to its slate.
