The zombie apocalypse continues
The Walking Deadis joining the TV drama super-longevity club. AMC has renewed the zombie drama for a 10th season, according to showrunner Angela Kang, who posted an announcement on Instagram. Season 10 is coming in October. The series is currently in the middle of Season 9, which returns with its midseason premiere on Sunday.
The pickup was expected, as The Walking Dead remains the most popular show on cable and the franchise is expanding to include a trilogy of Rick Grimes TV movies starring Andrew Lincoln among other as-yet-unannounced but in-development projects. Lincoln, the series' star, departed earlier in Season 9, but the show has experienced a creative renewal under new showrunner Kang. The ratings are not what the were at the show's peak in 2015, but Season 9 has been averaging around 8 million total viewers and it's still the top-rated cable series by considerable margin.
