Cowabunga! Get ready to Simpsons-ize your life.
At the Television Critics Association fall previews on Monday, FXX announced that it would air all 552 episodes of The Simpsons and the movie in a record-breaking 12-day marathon beginning Thursday, Aug. 21. That's 278 straight, chronological hours of The Simpsons to celebrate the network's exclusive cable acquisition and non-linear VOD rights to the hit animated show.
FX renews Louie and Fargo
Following the marathon, FXX will then add The Simpsons to its regular schedule in prime time and late night. On Sundays, the network will run mini eight-episode themed marathons of The Simpsons leading into the 8/7c broadcast of new Season 26 episodes on Fox. Additionally, on Oct. 26 from noon to midnight, FXX will air a marathon of the Halloween-themed "Treehouse of Horror" episodes.
Not enough Simpsons? In October, SimpsonsWorld.com and the FXNOW app will launch the Simpsons World digital portal where fans can dive deeper into everything Springfield. Beyond giving access to every episode ever, Simpsons World offers access to the Simpsons Heartbeat -- a monitor of the popularity of every single episode -- follow-along scripts, curated content, a bible that includes searchable movie references and quotes, in-depth character bios (Ex: Sideshow Bob's bio has a section that details his "Attempted Murders"), and Sequential Simpsons, which allows viewers to stream The Simpsons on a continuous loop.
"I see reason to not do anything but this app for 24 hours," Simpsons executive producer Al Jean told critics. "I don't want to over-promise, but I think this app will supply you with affordable healthcare."
FXNOW is currently available for iPhone, iPad, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Android phones and tablets, Smart TVs, and additional set-tops devices. Cable authentication will be required to access full episodes.
