3 Important Things We Learned From the Supernatural Season 14 Trailer

Get ready to see Dean Winchester in a new light!

One of the most exciting things about Supernatural's 14th season is the prospect of seeing the villainous archangel Michael running wild in Dean Winchester's body. While we'd never want to see our favorite pie-loving hunter suffer, there's no denying that this new development breathes fresh life into both the character and the series as a whole. And since we all know the real Dean (Jensen Ackles) will have to return eventually, there's no harm in enjoying this murderous turn for the time being.

The upcoming season finds Sam (Jared Padalecki) juggling a packed schedule which includes desperately searching for his missing bro, leading the Apocalypse World gang and going through the daily grind of being a hunter. Meanwhile, Michael is relishing in the freedom that Dean's body gives him while making progress on his ultimate plan for world domination. A newly-released teaser for the Season 14 premiere not only offered up a closer look at what to expect with Michael but also teased dark times ahead for our heroes.

Here are the three most important things we took away from the first teaser:

1. Michael is more terrifying than expected

We all knew Michael hijacking Dean's body wouldn't be all fun and games, but as the preview suggests, he's going to be downright terrifying. Sassy quips and a dapper newsboy hat aside, there's no denying the sinister acts of a ruthless, murderous being hell-bent on death and destruction. With innocent victims chained up and awaiting a gruesome fate, this killer version of Dean is one we'd never want to encounter.

Supernatural Season 14 Finds Jack in a Very Dark Place

2. Jack needs to take several seats

Don't get me wrong, we're very fond of Jack (Alexander Calvert). His journey last season from a baby Nephilim learning about the world to an unstoppable force to a guy without powers was a remarkable and heartbreaking adventure. But his outrageous suggestion to let Dean die in order to stop Michael proves that the young padawan still has much to learn -- especially since there's no way Sam would ever be on board for such a plan. Time to go back to the drawing board, Jack.

3. Sam should have had a beard ages ago

Why did it take this long for Sam to grow this glorious set of whiskers? It's not that we didn't take him seriously before, but this new look elevates him from a boyish moose to a grown-up mountain man fit to make demons quake with fear (and maybe endorse a nationally-recognized paper towel brand on the side). He might not have the means to take down Michael just yet but he certainly looks the part!

Supernatural returns for season 14 Thursday, Oct.11 at 8/7c on the CW.
