Details for the upcoming second season of Star Trek: Discovery have been kept tightly under wraps, but (some of) the wait is over: CBS All Access unveiled the official trailer as well as the premiere date for Season 2 during the weekend festivities at New York Comic Con. Mark your calendars: new episodes arrive Jan. 17, 2019.
The sneak peek offered up an extended glimpse at a dashing Captain Pike (Anson Mount) who will take command of the Discovery to face an imminent threat. More importantly, the trailer served up our first glimpse at Ethan Peck's Spock (OMG!) and it's clear that this version of the famed Vulcan will be different from what you might remember from TOS. For starters, he's rocking some serious whiskers and has obviously been through a lot. Plus, Burnham's voice calling his name at the end of the trailer makes us even more excited to see their relationship unfold this season.
During Discovery's panel Saturday at New York Comic Con, Martin-Green confirmed that the Red Angel teased in the trailer will be this season's overarching mystery and something that connects the adoptive siblings. "Spock has seen it in addition to Burnham," she teased. Can 2019 come sooner so we can start to get some answers?!
We're equally excited about the return of the Mirror Universe's Captain Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), seen in the preview, who is sure to bring even more trouble along the way. And in addition to Mount and Peck, the upcoming season will also introduce Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Pike's right-hand woman on the Enterprise.
Catch Season 2 when it premieres Jan. 17, 2019 on CBS All Access.
(Full disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS.)
