This year's Arrowverse crossover just got even better. Tom Welling, who played Superman for 10 seasons on Smallville, will once again don the red cape for Crisis on Infinite Earths, TV Guide has learned. It's the first time he'll reprise his breakout role since the CW series ended in 2011.

"For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it," Arrowverse executive producer Marc Guggenheim said in a statement (via Deadline). "So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we're thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement."

Everything We Know About the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover

This marks the third Superman slated to appear in the epic, five-part event. Tyler Hoechlin, who currently recurs as the Man of Steel on Supergirl, will also suit up for the crossover along with Brandon Routh, who wore the red cape in the 2006 big-screen film Superman Returns. Routh will be pulling double duty for the crossover, as he currently plays nerdy billionaire turned misfit hero Ray Palmer on DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

Crisis on Infinite Earth promises to be the Arrowverse's most ambitious crossover to date, bringing all of The CW's current superhero shows together, including Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and even Black Lightning, which existed entirely outside of the Arrowvere up until this point.

The five-way crossover kicks off this fall with Supergirl on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 8/7c, continuing on Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 and The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10. After winter break, the crossover will pick up again on Tuesday, Jan. 14 with a new episode of Arrow at 8 p.m. before concluding with DC's Legends of Tomorrow at 9/8c.
