Shadowhunters: Inside the Most Awkward Double Date Ever

Lillith's (Anna Hopkins) mysterious plans took a toll on the warlocks in this week's episode of Shadowhunters, but there's still no telling exactly what's she's trying to do, though resurrecting Jonathan (Will Tudor) seems likely.

Whatever ritual she performed on that altar started to mess with the Ley Lines within the city, and thus with the warlocks magic -- specifically, their ability to control said magic. The problem provided for some adorable teamwork between Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Alec (Matthew Daddario), not to mention some very flirty talk about shampoo of all things, but it also revealed a key plot point.

While trying to track down who or what was messing with the Ley Lines, Magnus admitted to Alec that the greater demon who fathered him is Asmodeus, a name everyone in the Downworld and Shadow World alike fear. Asmodeus played a large part in the original Mortal Instruments novels, so this mention of him so early in Season 3 might indicate he'll turn up on the show at some point too. Alec took the news with a little bit of hesitation, but ultimately acceptance, proving once again that nothing and no one can mess with Malec.

Shadowhunters: Can Clary and Simon's Friendship Survive Their Breakup?

Inside the Episode: Across town, the most awkward double date in the world was going down when Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) ended up getting seated next to Simon (Alberto Rosende) and Maia (Alisha Wainwright) for their first official dinner date. They all tried valiantly to soldier through the meal, but things came to a screeching halt when Jace accidentally spilled the beans about his and Maia's hookup.

"It was a bit of a challenge for us because we all have been to dinner together so many times that we had to focus on making it awkward because all of us were just having fun," Katherine McNamara reveals.

The big beer gulp Jace took actually ended up coming out of Dominic Sherwood's nose a couple times because the kids just couldn't keep from laughing during takes!

Shadowhunters airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Freeform.
