The CW is expanding the Riverdale universe with spin-off Katy Keene. The network is picking up Keene along with a Nancy Drew drama from Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage for the 2019-2020 season.

Katy Keene, a Riverdale offshoot about four aspiring artists trying to make it in New York City, stars Lucy Hale as wannabe fashion designer Katy Keene, who's trying to live her best Carrie Bradshaw-inspired life while working as a personal shopper. She's joined by Ashleigh Murray, who is departing Riverdale to play an older Josie McCoy. Camille Hyde, Lucien Laviscount, Jonny Beauchamp, and Julia Chan also star.

Riverdale boss Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi penned the Katy Keene pilot. They both executive-produce the series alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Archie Comics' John Goldwater, and Maggie Kelly, who directed the first episode.

Nancy Drew marks the third attempt by the broadcast networks to bring the iconic young sleuth back to television in as many years. Kennedy McMann will take on the titular role in this new take on the famous novels about a young woman detective. The network has also picked up Batwoman, which will join the Arrowverse lineup after the character was introduced in this year's crossover event.

The pick-up news wasn't all good though. The CW will not be moving forward with its Jane the Virgin spin-off, Jane the Novela, reports Variety. The anthology series was set to follow a different fictional novel "written by" Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez). Jane the Novela's first installment was written by Jane the Virgin writer Valentina Garza, who also served as executive producer alongside Gina Rodriguez, Jane showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman, Ben Silverman, and Brad Silberling. Silberling also directed the pilot.

The CW previously renewed its entire lineup, including all five of its freshman shows.
