After providing some suspicious information about having cancer, Brooks Ayers has admitted that he fabricated details to add to his story, though he maintains that he is actually battling the disease. Ayers previously said that he had been receiving cancer treatment at Los Angeles' City of Hope Hospital and that his ex-girlfriend, Real Housewives of Orange County star Vicki Gunvalson believed his story.

"Words cannot express the deep regret that I have in fabricating documents to 'prove' to the world that I, in fact, have cancer. What I did was wrong and inexcusable. I acted alone, without Vicki's knowledge, to produce documents for a reality TV show in hopes of putting doubts about my cancer to rest," he told E! Online.

He added that he had never intended to share his actual cancer story and thus went as far as to present false documentation "simply for a 'storyline" for the show. In trying to prove his story to E!, Ayers also presented fake invoices for chemotherapy treatment.

"From this day forward, my own personal journey with this disease will remain private as I initially intended over a year ago," he continued. "My sincerest apologies to my family, friends, loved ones, and those who are battling this horrid disease for any additional pain and/or stress that I have caused."

Ayers' Real Housewives co-star Tamra Judge summarized the troubling nature of his lies best, telling E! that while she isn't surprised by his revelation, she has "always said, if he has cancer I hope he gets better and if he doesn't...I still hope he gets better."
