Hey girl, whatcha doing?

To the average twentysomething, that might sound like a really lame take on Ryan Gosling's beloved Internet meme. But fans of New Girl will instantly recognize the opening line of the show's now-former theme song. Sadly, in November, that memorable ditty and the rest of New Girl's quirky and - sorry we're not sorry - adorkable opening credits were suddenly replaced with a shorter, zippier intro that incorporated series regulars Damon Wayans Jr. and Hannah Simone, the former of whom was promoted after Season 3 and the latter of whom was inexplicably left out of the original opening.

But which one is better? Fans were caught off guard by the sudden change, and even the show's cast members seem split. In a recent interview with Hitfix, Zooey Deschanel said she preferred the original credits. "I like the original ones personally but that's just me," she said. When asked to weigh in on the fan reaction, Deschanel admitted "a lot of people have kind of complained to me on Twitter and stuff. But it was mandated by not me."

When TVGuide.com spoke with Jake Johnson last month, he voiced his approval. "I think it's good because the other one didn't have Damon and Hannah and my big thought about New Girl is it's like sports," he said. "We have a deep bench. Let's use it."

If New Girl were to return to its original credits, it wouldn't be the first show to do so after a change. Back in 2011, White Collar reverted back to an older opening sequence after giving fans the power to decide. However, there's a super-secret third choice here as well, as suggested by Deschanel: "I think they wanted to include Hannah and Damon, which is a good reason, but I think it would be cool to have something like the original credits with the two of them in it."
