As you might have suspected, Michael Sam is not the only gay man in the NFL.

In a new special that aired on OWN over the weekend, Sam told Oprah Winfrey there are "a lot" of gay men playing in the league, but he wouldn't commit to a number when pressed for details.

"There's a lot of us out there, " Sam said. "I'm not the only one. I'm just the only one who's open."

Sam also said he's heard from a few fellow NFL players who wish they had the courage to be more like him. "[They] pretty much just told me their gratitude, how they were thankful," he said. "They wish that they had the courage to come out."

Earlier this year, Sam became the first openly gay man to be drafted into the NFL after the St. Louis Rams picked him in the seventh round. He wasreleased after the pre-season, but was later picked up by the Dallas Cowboys. He was cut from the team in October and is now a free agent.
