Green Acres Actress Mary Grace Canfield Dies at 89

Mary Grace Canfield, who played carpenter Ralph Monroe on Green Acres, died Saturday of lung cancer at a hospice in Santa Barbara, Calif., her daughter told the Los Angeles Times.

Mary Grace Canfield, who played carpenter Ralph Monroe on Green Acres, died Saturday of lung cancer at a hospice in Santa Barbara, Calif., her daughter told the Los Angeles Times.

Born in Rochester, N.Y., Canfield opted to attend an acting school rather than a traditional college and got her start on Broadway. She later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a screen career.

Besides Green Acres, Canfield's other TV credits include BewitchedThe Love Boat and General Hospital. In 1963, she appeared on The Andy Griffith Show, going on a blind date with Gomer Pyle (Jim Nabors). She also had small film roles in Pollyanna and Something Wicked This Way Comes.

In the mid-1980s, Canfield moved to Sedgwick, Maine and lived there until 2011 when she returned to California.

Canfield is survived by her husband, John Bischof; two daughters and three grandsons, according to the Times.
