It was only a matter of time: Law & Order: SVU's next ripped-from-the-headlines episode will be a take on Making a Murderer.

Henry Thomas (aka Elliot from E.T.) will play a convicted rapist who was later exonerated by a DNA test in the installment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Now, 16 years after Fin (Ice-T) first arrested Thomas' character, the detective will investigate him again after the ex-con is linked to a deadly crime. The Practice's Kelli Williams will guest-star as the rape survivor who initially identified Thomas' character as her assailant.

Making a Murderer became an instant sensation when it premiered on Netflix last December. The documentary series told the story of Steven Avery, a man who was wrongfully convicted of sexual assault and served 18 years until DNA testing exonerated him. Shortly after his release, Avery was arrested and convicted for the murder of Teresa Halbach. His appeals process will be documented in the show's recently-announced new episodes.

Law & Order: SVU returns Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9/8c on NBC.
