Lamar Odom Breathing on His Own and Communicating with Family

Lamar Odom has regained consciousness after three days in a coma, his aunt JaNean Mercer confirms to Us Weekly.

A rep for Mercer said that on Friday, Odom "gave a thumbs-up to the doctors this morning and said a few words to them."

The NBA star's improved condition was reaffirmed by Kris Jenner, who told Access Hollywood that Odom has spoken to her daughter and his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian.

The website also reports that doctors are trying to wean Odom off the ventilator, but that he remains in critical condition.

Odom was found unconscious Tuesday after overdosing on various sexual performance enhancements and other drugs. He was airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital where he had been on life support after multiple strokes. ET also reports that Odom's kidney's have been failing and that he's been on dialysis since Wednesday.
