Joan Rivers, Writers Guild Resolve Dispute

Joan Rivers and the Writers Guild of America East have resolved the charges brought against Rivers, the organization announced Monday. The guild had charged Rivers with violating its rules by continuing to write for E!'s Fashion Police, even though the show's writers have been on strike since mid-April. As a co-host of the program, Rivers is contractually obligated to continue with her hosting duties, but the WGAE argued that those do not include her writing for the show.

"As a lifetime member of the WGA, I have always supported the writers and want what's best for them," Rivers said in a statement. "In further support of the striking writers, I've decided not to render any writing services, even though as a comedian and SAG-AFTRA host, I often write material for myself."

Rivers will thus avoid going before a trial board to argue the charges. She also took the opportunity to advocate for a swift resolution between Fashion Police and its writers.

"As a WGA member, I've always supported the Fashion Police writers having a contract," she said. "It's time for both sides to sit down at the table and negotiate. ... We all want the same thing - to get this behind us - so let's make this deal!"
