Yes, Hannibal has been canceled at NBC, but there's still plenty of goodness to come this season.

For starters, Thursday's episode features the return of two characters whose mortal fate remained in question: Dr. Frederick Chilton (Raul Esparza) and Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas)! And for the latter, being pushed out a second-story window has definitely changed her perspective.

"She's toughened up," Dhavernas told during a recent visit to the show's Toronto set. "She's looking out for herself. Let's not forget that Hannibal made a very important promise at the end of Season 2. He said to Alana, 'I will kill you,' and he keeps his promises, that guy. So, she's maybe playing more games [like] a lot of people do around her."

Like Will (Hugh Dancy) and Jack (Laurence Fishburne) before her, Alana will quickly join in the hunt for Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen), and one of her games involves getting someone else to do her dirty work: Mason Verger! "She knows that Mason is like an angry dog and he's going to go for Hannibal," Dhavernas says. "And she knows, being the great shrink that she is, that she can manipulate and maybe even seduce Mason. He's a very good tool to have, but very dangerous."

But as the season goes on, you can expect Alana to make even more eyebrow-raising partnerships, particularly when it comes to her love life. "Both Alana and Will, who both had love affairs with Hannibal, have gone on to find other people to fulfill that role in their lives," executive producer Bryan Fuller teases. "For Alana, it's really about finding a safety in the insanity and redefining herself outside of Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter entirely. She's acknowledging that she has survived and she has to change because the world is not the world she thought it was before Hannibal Lecter."
