A Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 Romance Is Definitely Happening: 3 Ideas Who It Could Be

Who has the sparks?

A new season of TGIT on ABC can't get here soon enough, and we can already tell you that sparks are going to fly in the Grey's Anatomy universe. Grey's and Station 19 showrunner Krista Vernoff teased to TV Guide that fans can expect more than just occupational crossovers between the shows this season.

"I'm excited by what we're doing on both shows," she said at the ABC Summer Stars party. "We're building one romance between the two shows. I'm excited for fans to see what that is."

It was announced when Station 19 was renewed that the series was going to cross over with Grey's Anatomy for every episode of its third season, and the Grey's Season 16 trailer already revealed that Vic (Barrett Doss) will appear in the premiere to help with the search for Jackson (Jesse Williams). This new information has us trying to guess who will be heating things up between the two shows -- so let's talk about it.

1. Dean (Okieriete Onaodowan) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary)

Dean and Maggie already had a little flirtation going on last season when Jackson was off finding himself in the woods. Jackson came back with a renewed sense of purpose, though -- and a passion for Maggie. The two tried to get their relationship back on track, but they had a massive, potentially relationship-ending fight right before Jackson disappeared into the fog. Fingers crossed that Jackson survives this latest stunt, but even if he does, will he and Maggie stay together? Meanwhile, Dean has finally found a girl that his mom will approve of on Station 19, but she also has serious history with his coworker. That awkwardness could kill a fledgling relationship and open the doors for Dean and Maggie to try again.

2. Maya (Danielle Savre) and Carina (Stefania Spampinato)

To be perfectly honest, my ideal coupling for Maya would be Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), but since the latter has finally seemed to have found some romantic stability with Link (Chris Carmack), Carina makes an excellent choice for Maya. Again, the Olympic runner already has something going on with Jack (Grey Damon) on Station 19, but that relationship has been volatile from the start. As Station 19 will be flashing forward before heading into Season 3, it could be that Jack and Maya fell apart before the season premiere, in which case there'd be plenty of room in her life for a sexy Italian OBGYN. Plus, with Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) missing, Grey's has been sorely lacking in lesbian action.

3. Vic and Jackson

Listen, if Maggie and Jackson are going to break up, that means Jackson is available too. We already know that Vic is going to be on the scene when he's found, and they could form a connection during the rescue. Vic is still grieving after her boyfriend died at the end of Station 19's second season, but we've already seen that Jackson is really compassionate towards women dealing with loss. Of the available options, these two have the best shot at a slow-burn romance that could get viewers on both sides invested. Let's face it: Jackson deserves to find the person who is truly right for him.
