One was so secretive that they needed a private plane
Is Walter White (Bryan Cranston) going to make a flashback cameo in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie? We still don't know for certain, but we now have even more reason to believe the answer is yes.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, who wrote and directed El Camino, and actor Aaron Paul, who plays Jesse Pinkman, talked about what drew them both back to the Albuquerque drug scene for this film and how much effort went into keeping the production a secret.
Gilligan is averse to spoilers, but the piece divulges that there will be more than 10 familiar Breaking Bad characters in El Camino, including one "key cast member" who had to be shuttled to Albuquerque on a private jet so as to remain unseen. Who could that POSSIBLY BE?! We certainly have our suspicion.
Breaking Bad Movie El Camino: Everything to Know About the Netflix Return
Apart from Jesse Pinkman, the only two Breaking Bad characters who have been confirmed to return for El Camino are Skinny Pete (Charles Baker), who appeared in the first teaser trailer for the movie, and Badger (Matt Jones). But now that we know at least eight more familiar faces will make an appearance in the film somehow -- including that unnamed VIP who was just too recognizable for a first class flight -- the chances of Heisenberg appearing on screen one last time seem better than ever.
The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that Gilligan first thought of a continuation for Jesse's story before Breaking Bad even ended, but it took the show's 10th anniversary in early 2018 to really get him moving on the project. And secrecy was key; the team managed to return to New Mexico and film the whole thing before anyone even officially announced that the movie was happening. (This is where Jesse would shout, "Yeah bitch!")
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie premieres on Netflix on Friday, Oct. 11. The film will also be screened at 68 movie theaters across the country, including locations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Albuquerque. El Camino will air on AMC sometime in 2020.
