The last we saw of Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) on Criminal Minds, he was being threatened by a serial killer cult that was holding Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) hostage as collateral to get Reid to join them.

Um, that's some seriously stressful stuff and after Season 12's prison drama, Reid was on an FBI-mandated sabbatical to preserve his mental health. Needless to say, being forcibly recruited by a serial killer cult is not doing Reid any favors.

"That ends up being a great runner that we go with for Season 14. He's been through a lot, right? It's going to affect him," Criminal Minds executive producer Erica Messer teased to TV Guide.

Don't worry though, while Reid is going to have some struggles, he won't be going through the ringer like he has been the past two seasons. "He'll still be the hero we rely on every week," Messer promised.

Thank goodness!
